TRAINING

Training with The Irish Advocacy Network

Over recent years IAN has revitalised and expanded its training remit. During a period of revision, we have developed a programme of training to meet the needs of individuals, groups and organisations. This ranges from personal development, peer mentoring, building group capacity and team building. We have worked collaboratively with statutory and voluntary organisations delivering training to meet the needs of clients and help fulfil public commitments.

At a personal development level, our Self Advocacy course aims to enhance participant knowledge of rights; augment skills and confidence in pursuing them. We have developed a three-phase programme of training to help groups establish themselves in collaboration with or independent of statutory services (see below). The primary aim of the group training is to enable groups of service users, carers and family members to build capacity and influence local HSE mental health services.   We often adapt, rewrite or augment our training to meet specific group needs as requested.

If you are interested in any of these training programmes or want to enquire if we could develop training to meet your needs please contact us either through our Head Office or by emailing our Training and Development Officer, Mr Jim Walsh: jim@irishadvocaynetwork.com

Please note, unfortunately all our training requires funding. Cost can be negotiated.

TRAINING MANUALS

Consumer Panel Training

The three training manuals you find here, Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 have been developed in response to growing requests to support and enable service user and family member/carer involvement in the development of local mental health services.

We encourage you to read Document No. 1 i.e. 3-Phase Introduction & Acknowledgement in order to obtain an overall understanding of the training. Irish Advocacy Network is in the process of designing more print-friendly/user-friendly versions of the manuals which will replace the attached pdfs in due course.

We acknowledge that not every session will be appropriate to each Consumer Panel (and indeed any peer led representative group or partnership venture) that decides to use the training. Groups are at liberty to use any of the training sessions, picking and choosing which bits they would like to use. Though the training has a particular focus on groups that are being newly established, some of the content may also be useful to those whose existence has been long standing yet feel they have identified a skills or knowledge gap or would benefit from skills or knowledge enhancement of what they already have.

In essence, the training can be delivered as a whole or alternatively groups are at liberty to choose which parts of the manual they think applicable and relevant to their needs. We hope you find the documents useful
