WHY WE DO IT
Our guiding principles
The Irish Advocacy Network's aim is to build a society in which all people who are experiencing mental health challenges are treated with equality and respect. We want all individuals to have access to the information and treatment options so they can make a full recovery and reintegrate back into society. Recovery can take time, and we want people to have all the supports they need to help them on that journey.
We are a client-centered organisation, so people who avail of our services are always in the driving seat. We can offer information and support, but it’s always the client that makes their own decisions.
We always want our clients to find their own voice, and learn to speak up and speak out for themselves. Mental Health service providers and users all want the same thing, for an individual to be strong enough that they no longer need support, that they can support themselves. We will advocate for people when they need us, but what we really want is to help build the person to the point where they can advocate for themselves. Then they take true ownership over their own treatment needs, and gain true autonomy. And we will always be there to support them to that end.
